Increased RAM. Until recently 4 or 8 GB RAM was sufficient for most every medium & HD truck diagnostic software. Cummins now recommends 12 GB RAM for Insite version 8.5. Forward-looking computer builders are now installing 16 GB RAM in order to prepare for any future increased Cummins requirements.Using a solid state hard drive (SSD) will help the Insite program open quicker. Also, it’s less likely to be damaged due to a hard fall.

Use 64-bit systems, as a 32-bit system will only “see” 4 GB RAM, indeterminate of the amount of RAM installed. A 64-bit system will use all the RAM installed.Use Windows 10 64-bit Pro operating system. Even though Microsoft Win 7 is a great operating system & works well with Cummins Insite, Microsoft is scheduled to stop support for Windows 7 in early 2020. For that reason, Cummins, Allison, Detroit and others are recommending the use of Windows 10 operating system.
